November 2004 - version 2.3-9↑ Return to top

The licence headers were added in all the source files. V_Sim is now officialy under the CeCILL licence (see the licence page for further details).

The name of the program has also been changed from Visu_gl_gtk to V_Sim. From now on the resources and parameters files are named v_sim.res and v_sim.par. To allow the backward compatibility, if no v_sim.* files are found in the current working directory when V_Sim is launched, the program looks also for classical visu_gl_gtk.* files.

Old versions

Previous versions earlier than 2.3-9 are no more downloadable for licence reasons. They are kept there only for historic log.

September 2004 - version 2.3-8↑ Return to top

Correct a bug that writes a wrong error message when the '%d' pattern is omitted in the filename during dump all process. This bug existed because the messages were written in french with accents and environnements with the LANG variable pointing to a charset without accents can't simply show the messages.

Screenshot of the new render button.

Add a new button in the browse window to force the rendering of a selected file without needing to circle around all the list. This button called 'render' forces to draw the selected file (with a mouse clic, right or left, or with keyboard arrows) event if this file is not checked.

August 2004 - version 2.3-7↑ Return to top

Correct a bug with the behavior of the backing-store when the X rendering is direct (indeed, the missing of backing-store). The backing-store was previuosly associated with the normal context of the window and not with the GlX context which explains that the backing-store seemed not to work. Warning : to have the backing-store available, it must be specified in the XF86Config-4 file in /etc/X11/. Check with the following commands the direct rendering or the backing-store state of your X server :

Add a support for the mouse wheel in observe session. It allows to zoom in or zoom out with a step of ten percents.

June 2004 - version 2.3-6↑ Return to top

Screenshot of the progress bar in a dump all process.

Add a cancelation button under the progress bar when all selected files are dumped to images and a label to explain which is done.

Modify the dump system to pass one more argument which is a function called 100 times during the dumping process. It allows to call the gtk_pending_events which makes the cancel button more reactiv and which allows to have smoother evolution with the progress bar.

Changes within the routine that make the combo box to allow it to update atom species when a new file is reloaded either via automatic update or via the file browser. To avoid the subpanel to blink when the combo box is modified, "changed events" are disabled during the modifications. Thus a call to make_combo doesn't redraw the subpanel and the selected subpanel is maintained.

May 2004 - version 2.3-5↑ Return to top

A new check box appears in the browser subpanel. When checked, this option allows to dump all selected files instead of just the one being viewed. The way it works, is fully described in the user guide. It is important to notice that as all dump processes, the rendering window must not be hidden since it works like a screenshot.

May 2004 - version 2.3-4↑ Return to top

A new function is added that allow to have an automatic refreshing of the view when the file is changed. It works with a polling method : regulary visu scans the disk to see the timestamp of last modifying acces to the file and acts accordingly. It introduces two new parameters : automatic_update and refresh_rate which first enable or not the polling and then controls the period of it. This version introduces also a new subpanel called "Drawing methods" where these two parameters can be ajusted. The button to control immediate or deferred drawing has also been moved from the action panel to this new subpanel.

Marsh 2004 - version 2.3-3↑ Return to top

Screenshot of the line thickness parameter.

A new parameter is introduced to code for the width of the box. It is called box_lines_thickness in the parameter file and can vary from 1 to 10. A spin selector is added in the "box and axes" subpanel to control it in a user-friendly way.

February 2004 - version 2.3-2↑ Return to top

This is a version to correct bugs : number of viewed files in the browser were before restricted to 50 by a parameter but if more files were available, it crashs the program (void ascii file made also the program crashs). Now, any number of ascii files can appear in the browser.

June 2003? - version 2.3-1↑ Return to top

Screenshot of the browser panel.

A new subpanel is added to allow to browse in .ascii files of the current working directory. Source files are asciiViewer.c and asciiViewer.h. With the arrow buttons one jumps to the next or from the previous selected ascii file. Use the "select all" button to check every available file and the "unselect all" to uncheck all. The ascii files viewed in the browser are only those of the current working directory when V_Sim has been opened.
